AFC Fylde have completed the signing of midfielder David Morgan from Nuneaton Town for a five figure fee.
The 22-year-old joins the Coasters on a one-and-a-half year deal, with the option of a further year.
Morgan began his early career with Championship side Nottingham Forest, but was released and moved to Ilkeston in 2014. After an impressive season with the Robins, he switched to Nuneaton the following summer.
Born in Belfast, Morgan has played at youth level for Northern Ireland and has won four caps at Under-21 level.
Chairman David Haythornthwaite said: “We weren’t really looking to sign anyone else permanently at this stage of the season as the manager was happy with the squad.
“However, Morgan was someone the manager had on his list for next season so we had to move fast. We became aware that several other clubs were interested in him but more importantly because of his situation at Nuneaton the club wanted to do a deal now and not wait until the end of the season.
“It helped that the player wanted to come and had a good agent which always makes things easier. Things then moved very quickly from the first indications on Monday so we are happy to get it done.”
Manager Dave Challinor added: “David has been on our radar for some time and the opportunity arose to get him in sooner than anticipated which we were more than happy to do. It also means one of our targets for next season is already sorted.
“He’s another technically good player who will get on the ball and play forward. He is someone who we believe can play not only in the next division above but higher still.
“He will train over the next couple of days and he will be in contention straight away. I’m confident that he will fit in here really well.”
