Chorley v AFC Fylde
Sunday 1st January, 2017, k/o 3pm
Victory Park
Vanarama National League North
Here we go again … the grudge match!
AFC Fylde and Chorley go head-to-head once more on New Year’s Day for the second time in under a week.
Chorley earned the bragging rights on Boxing Day following victory at Mill Farm, inflicting a first ever defeat for the Coasters at our new stadium.
Magpies striker Jason Walker netted either side of half-time to seal a 2-0 victory.
Despite the defeat, Fylde are still six points clear at the top of the National League North table heading into the new year.
The Boxing Day clash was a historic occasion for the club as the attendance record was smashed. The 3,858 gate was double the previous record (1,935) set against Harrogate Town back in November.
The Coasters’ record crowd has now been beaten five times this season – vs Brackley Town (1,365), Salford City (1,832), Halifax Town (1,905), Harrogate Town (1,935) and Chorley (3,858).
Fylde have an enviable record of 15 wins, five draws and just two defeats from 22 league games this season.
Chorley have made a strong start themselves and currently sit in third place, level on points with Kidderminster Harriers. The Magpies are unbeaten in their last seven league outings – their last defeat coming against Stockport County in October.
It is again a battle of the league’s top scorers against the meanest defence. Fylde have netted 66 league goals this season whilst Chorley boast the best defensive record having conceded just 15 times.
The honours were even last season – Danny Rowe netting the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory at Kellamergh Park, whilst Chorley came from two-goals down to earn a 3-2 win at Victory Park.
