One month in and a new Football Development Centre launched by AFC Fylde Community Foundation is already proving to be a great success.

The Centre focuses heavily on supporting children to develop their agility, balance, coordination and technical skills, as well as working on both individual and group aspects of the game.

The sessions are provided and run by Foundation Football Development Centre Coach, Dan Cookson and AFC Fylde first team goalkeeper, Rhys Taylor. Working together, Dan and Rhys are able to provide an educational and entertaining programme enabling children to leave with better knowledge and greater understanding of the game.

The Foundation runs the Development Centre twice a week on a Wednesday evening and Sunday morning and are currently experiencing excellent numbers attending all sessions.  Although still in its infancy, the Foundation are enjoying excellent attendance figures with up to 40 children joining the popular Sunday morning session every week.

Football Development Centre Lead Dan Cookson is understandably happy with the progress being made. He said: “ The Development Centre is a programme I put a lot of time into running, and I’m really proud as to how well it is doing. It’s a great feeling seeing children take part in a session which they not only really enjoy but leave having bettered their ability.  I’m excited for the future of the programme.”

A parent of a participant at the centre also said: “The brilliant thing about the Football Development Centre is that it’s not only great fun, but educational as well so the children taking part benefit at every level.”
