AFC Fylde have experienced quite the turnaround in playing staff over the summer. 15 players departed whilst 10 new players have arrived as manager Dave Challinor looks to improve on last season’s 7th place finish.
Neill Byrne and Danny Kane have been influential in helping keep six clean sheets whilst Jim Kellermann, Danny Philliskirk and Ryan Croasdale have all played a midfield role in the opening 11 fixtures helping them become familiar names on the Coasters team sheet. Saturday’s goalscorer Joe Cardle has become a firm fans favourite and looks to be building a brilliant bond with Zaine Francis-Angol down the left side.
Meanwhile, Tom Brewitt, Ashley Hemmings, Russell Griffiths and Gime Toure have had limited opportunities but have been available and ready when called upon.
The Coasters have lost just once this season and despite the success of the new recruits, Challinor is still keen to strengthen his squad. When asked he commented:
“We’re always looking at new players. We’ve had a big change at the top end of the pitch and we are actively looking to get some more pace within the side. We’ve lost Johnny Smith and Jack Muldoon who are different types of players to what we have this season.”
The Coasters are no longer restricted to a transfer window and are permitted to make loans at any point throughout the season. When asked if he has addressed any potential transfer targets Challinor said:
“It’s not just about bringing someone in for the sake of it, I’ve got targets that we would like to do things with. Loans are very reliant on other clubs, but we are actively looking to strengthen to give us more options up the top end of the pitch.”
AFC Fylde are back in action this weekend as they travel to the Hive Stadium to take on Barnet.
