The AFC Fylde Community Foundation has been spreading wellbeing and mindfulness throughout the Fylde Coast with its yoga project.

Tailored for all ages, from two years old to 50+, yoga classes are carried out in local schools, nurseries, hospitals and workplaces – including a session for patients at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital children’s ward.

Around 25 yoga sessions are given each week by the Foundation’s health and wellbeing team, Michael Brown and Anthony Stayte. The idea is to enhance local people’s mental and physical wellbeing, promote core balance and stability and calm the mind.

Adult participants enjoy the opportunity to wind down from work and other stresses, reenergising while keeping the body and mind flexible. The health and wellbeing team has seen a difference in the young participants too, with improved balance and coordination as well as a boost in concentration, confidence and listening skills.

Tom Hutton, director of community development at the AFC Fylde Community Foundation, said: “We are so proud to offer the Fylde Coast’s most substantial yoga programme in such a wide range of different settings. It’s great to witness the positive impact the sessions have on people and children of all ages. Young or older, we’ve found the participants relish the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings through movement.

“Anybody who is interested in finding out more about the sessions should definitely get in touch.”
