AFC Fylde are delighted to complete the signing of young goalkeeper Bobby Jones.

The 19-year-old becomes The Coasters’ second summer signing,  joining the Club on a one-year deal with an option of a further year in the club’s favor.

The 6’2″ stopper has been rewarded with a permanent contract following a successful trial at the back end of last season, impressing AFC Fylde boss Jim Bentley and his coaching staff. Jones is a player that Assistant Manager Nick Chadwick knows well, having previously managed him in Wigan Athletic Under 23’s during his three-year stay.

Jones is no stranger to the non-league setup, having enjoyed productive loan spells at Farsley Celtic and Warrington Town in the past.

Speaking to afcfylde.co.uk about the new recruit, Jim Bentley said: “We are really pleased to get this deal sorted. Bobby is an exciting signing for the Football Club, and somebody who we feel has great potential.

“He is held in high regard by all at Wigan. Nick [Chadwick] has worked closely with Bobby while he was there and we feel he can push Chris Neal next season.

“It helps that he has been and had some really positive loan spells at non-league clubs, Warrington and Farsley Celtic, so he knows what’s expected of him.

“We are looking forward to working with Bobby to hopefully help him fulfill his potential.”

Nick Chadwick added: “Bobby is someone I have admired for a while. He showed a great level of professionalism and work ethic during my time at Wigan and has the right temperament to be a top goalkeeper.

“If he can apply himself in the same way and continue to work hard and learn from the likes of Chris Neal then I am certain we have acquired a top keeper that has the potential to get to the very top.”
