With a trip to Yeovil Town next up for the Coasters, Manager Dave Challinor has looked ahead to the fixture, the squad he has available, and the time spent without a game.
AFC Fylde’s fixture with Barnet set for last weekend was postponed due to The Bees having three players called-up to international duty – and Challinor has looked to take the positives from it.
“The time without a game gave us the chance to work on things on the training ground, and we could work pretty extensively on specific areas,” he said.
“Once you’ve played and performed well and had nothing from games you want your game to come as quickly as possible – but this has given us valuable hours on the training pitch.”
The Coasters head to an in-form Glovers side, who have won three games in a row – including a win away at one of the early pacesetters Halifax Town.
“They’ve done very well, but our approach this weekend doesn’t change – we still head their looking to win.”
“I went to see their game at Halifax at the weekend, and in the first half, their performance was as good as I’ve seen.”
“As much as we respect their strengths, we think we can cause them problems,” he continued.
“Our last two away performance have been good, just without the points that I think we’ve deserved – so we go there positively.”
“If we weren’t performing at the moment, and we were losing, I’d be a lot more concerned – the last game epitomises it for me at the moment, when we should never have lost.”
“We need to instil that belief that what we are doing is right, and keep striving to be better at what we do, being more clinical, and minimising the mistakes.”
Team News
Captain Lewis Montrose has missed the last two fixtures, and despite being back in training, this weekend seems to be too soon for the midfield general.
“Lewis won’t be involved this weekend having tweaked his thigh towards the end of the Harrogate game, which was a tough one to take so late on, but hopefully he’ll be fine for next week.”
“On a more positive note, Dan Bradley has trained all week so he’ll be back in contention, whilst hopefully we’ll have a new player in ahead of the weekend.”
