Once again it was great to win on Saturday and keep our good run going. We weren’t at our fluent best, especially in the final third but I felt we did more than enough to deserve the three points.
We had a nervy last few minutes after conceding a sloppy goal from our perspective and also, didn’t finish Gainsborough off on the break when they were throwing bodies forward. These are the sort of things that can come back and bite you and on another day we could have thrown two points away when they hit the bar late on.
We made several changes from the line up last week, some as we knew how Gainsborough would set up and approach the game and we felt we would get some joy with the personnel we started the game with. Other changes were that some lads haven’t quite been at their best over the last few weeks and a decision was made to freshen things up.
The start we’ve had has put us on everyone’s radar and teams are now aware of our threats. Teams are attempting to stop us play in a variety of ways but we need to keep improving individually and collectively and give them other problems. I’ve been disappointed with certain aspects of our game and the lads know we can do things better. They’re good players, want to learn and want to do well for each other.
We can now focus on next weeks cup game and have a full week of preparation for Kings Lynn. There’s a lot of work to be done and a free week will give us a chance, not only to bed Jamie into the squad more and get another week of training into Blinks but also work on the things that we haven’t quite been at as a high level as we want.
All our thoughts now are on next Saturday, it’s a big game for both clubs and we expect a really stern test. We go there with a point to prove from last season and we will be looking to come away with a positive result. Everyone knows the huge prize that awaits on the outcome of the game and we are looking forward to travelling there and hopefully performing in a great atmosphere.
