AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor was delighted with how his side responded in the 2-1 victory over AFC Telford United at the weekend.
The Coasters suffered a disappointing defeat against Worcester City in the previous match, but goals from Danny Rowe and Danny Lloyd helped Challinor’s side get back to winning ways on Saturday.
“It was very important that we bounced back from the disappointment of last week against Worcester.
“We weren’t at our best by any stretch, but it was great to come away with the win. Full credit to Telford who made the game very difficult for us. It was a very competitive and physical game and on another day it could have gone the other way so we are delighted.
“Ben Hinchliffe has been our number one goalkeeper since we arrived so it was a difficult decision to drop him. Unfortunately he has made a couple of mistakes recently, which keepers will do, and Matt Urwin has been patient and he deserved his opportunity. He has played in a few cup games and has done really well and he was fantastic today.
“We have a strong squad so leaving people out is always difficult, but players will make decisions for us on most occasions.
“We started the game well and deservedly went in front, but a lapse in concentration gave a goal away and that really started the frustration because we knew we had let them back in cheaply.
“From then we gave them something to go at and made it tough for ourselves because the crowd got behind them. It became a bit scrappy but I thought the referee handled it well.
“Danny Lloyd got his 50th goal for us to win the game and we had a similar conversation about Danny Rowe a few weeks ago. We think we have a very good squad and on his day Lloydy is a real threat.
“We have a tough game on Tuesday against Chorley and it will probably be the same type of match. The pitch isn’t great and it will be a battle but if we show the same qualities that we did here then I’m sure we can get a positive result.”
