AFC Fylde manager Dave Challinor hopes to use yesterday’s FA Cup triumph over Wrexham as a springboard for future success.
The Coasters are in the hat for tomorrow’s draw alongside clubs from the Football League and Challinor hopes the 1-0 win can kick-start Fylde’s season.
Challinor said: “This competition can be beneficial for different purposes. The cup has come at a good time for us and we have to use this as a springboard now.
“We picked a strong team and it is something for us to build on. It’s a clean sheet and a different system for us with some new players that have come in and done really well and we are deservedly through to the next round.
“We haven’t prevented enough goals being scored against us this season through one reason or another but as a unit we looked more solid.
“Regardless of the prize for winning, we used the game as one to get a run going. It could have been an FA Cup game, an FA trophy game or a league game, it didn’t really make a big difference to me. It was simply a game that we wanted to win.
“That said, we are very much looking forward to the draw. I have been fortunate enough to have reached the first round three times during my time here and now it’s four.
“We have drawn Football League clubs up to now and it would be nice to get another. I’m not going to lie, it would be nice to get the lowest rank team at home to give us the opportunity to reach the second round.
“I’m not over overly fussed. We will see what the draw brings and re-visit that in three weeks when the cup comes back around.”
