The AFC Fylde Community Foundation encourage their Futsal Scholars to take part in as many enrichment and learning trips as possible but a recent event was the most unusual to date!

The Foundation are halfway through the first year of running the nationally recognised Futsal Scholarship education course, supported by Cuadrilla and Spirit Energy. In a break from normal studies, the Scholars, along with some of the Foundation team, enjoyed an education trip around Cuadrilla’s Preston New Road site.

The scholars were taken on a tour of the unique location and were able to see for themselves the varied employment opportunities available through the shale gas and supply chain industries, located on the Fylde Coast.

The opportunity also allowed the group to learn about the safety aspects of shale gas extraction and to take part in group discussions regarding the wider benefits of the industry.

Foundation Director Tom Hutton said he was impressed with how motivated and enthusiastic the scholars were about the trip. He said: “The Foundation greatly appreciated the opportunity to take part in such an unusual site trip.

“It was an incredible day out for our scholars, looking around the exploration site. It was an opportunity for them to see the job opportunities that the industry can provide, which they had no idea about before.

“Both staff and scholars alike had a great day and I’m glad they got the chance to take a closer look at the business that’s helping to support their educational programme.”
