It’s the beginning of a new era at Mill Farm this weekend as AFC Fylde take on Rochdale in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup.
It will be the first game for new Head Coach Kevin Phillips who was appointed on Tuesday morning, as he gets a first look at his new squad in action.
The Coasters will be heading into the contest full of confidence coming off the back of a 5-2 win over Aldershot Town last weekend.
Braces from Gavin Massey and Charlie Jolley along with a half-way line wonder goal from Nick Hauhgton proved the difference as the Coasters picked up a vital three points.
As for the visitors, they’re unbeaten in three games having won away at Hartlepool and at home to Braintree Town before drawing 2-2 away at Ebbsfleet Town.
Opposition Dugout: Jimmy McNulty
Dale are managed by former player Jimmy McNulty. The 39-year-old joined Rochdale back in 2015 and has 197 appearances for the club.
He initially took charge on an interim basis in August 2022 and then again in March 2023, taking charge permanently after the club’s relegation to the National League.
McNulty has had a playing career across the Football League amassing over 400 appearances, featuring spells for Macclesfield, Stockport, Brighton, Barnsley, Tranmere and Bury.
He secured a mid-table finish for Rochdale in his first spell in charge and has seen his side make a good start to this season.
Rochdale were knocked out of the FA Cup at this stage last year, suffering a 1-0 defeat away to Hereford.
One to watch: Kairo Mitchell
Having signed from Notts County in June 2023, the 26-year-old has been a key attacking threat for the Dales. He has 22 goals in 49 appearances, including finding the back of the net nine times so far this season.
Having begun his career at Leicester City’s academy, Mitchell also had spells at Nuneaton Town, Coalville Town, Dartford, King’s Lynn Town and Chesterfield, his best return being 21 goals in 57 games for Coalville.
Born in England, the striker has represented Grenada at international level, earning 15 caps and scoring twice for the Caribbean nation.
