A thunderstorm at Kellamergh Park meant a pre-season friendly between the Coasters and Barnsley FC was abandoned.

The visitors had a 2-0 lead before the referee called the meeting off, thanks to Devante Cole & Herbie Kane, who grabbed first-half goals.

Another two elevens took to the field once again, just like the first outing of pre-season, where the Coasters ran out as 4-1 winners away at Longridge Town.

It was quite a lively start to proceedings at Kellamergh Park as both sides looked to get a foot on the ball and play. The only chance so far was for the visitors and Liam Kitching, who sent a header wide of the post from a corner.

However, it was only a few moments later that the Tykes scored the game’s opener when Liam Kitching played a through ball to Cole, who was left alone on goal for him to slot into the net.

Much of what was seen last season, the Coaster always reacted when going behind, and after a lovely Crossfield ball by Danny Whitehead to Trialist C, he was able to cut inside and force Ben Killip into an instinctive stop.

Richardson was then called into action to make a smart stop down to his right after James Norwood latched onto a long ball over the top of the Coasters’ defence and took aim, placing it into the hands of the number 25.

As play settled down and chances dried up, Kane made one of his own out of nowhere. After picking up the ball inside his own half, the former Liverpool man spotted Richardson off his line to lift over him and into the back of the net.

A player that found his rhythm as play went on was Nick Haughton, and he managed to drift past three players and split the Barnsley defence with a through ball to find Jon Ustabasi, who, with only Killip to beat, lifted over him but wide of the post.

Shortly after the interval, the referee abandoned the fixture due to a thunderstorm.
