We are delighted to announce that Nathan Pond has joined AFC Fylde!
The 35-year-old joins the club after his contract with Sky Bet League Two side Salford City expired this summer.
A commanding, powerful and experienced central defender, Pond arrives at Mill Farm with a solid reputation within the game, having amassed hundreds of appearances across both the EFL and various levels of non-league. Pond also has an incredible seven promotion winning campaigns on his CV.
He now becomes the Coasters’ first new arrival of the summer on the playing side, following two new coaching appointments late last week in Nick Chadwick and Andy Taylor.
Speaking to afcfylde.co.uk after signing his contract, Pond said: “I had a lot of interest off the club when they found out I was available and even as far back as January when I was still at Salford, they showed interest in me. I was out of contract this summer and Jim Bentley got in contact, and what he told me suited me. The ambition of the club and the desire for promotion was great and that’s what I want to do.
“I am really pleased to be here now and get it all signed. I played against some of the players in the play-off final so I know the quality that is in this squad, so now it’s about all of us getting back in together and looking to get promoted.”
Jim Bentley was really pleased to secure one of his main summer targets and stated Pond is exactly what he was looking for as he aims to build a side that can secure automatic promotion at the first attempt.
Bentley said: “Nathan is a very good player who has been there, seen it, done it and has numerous promotions on his CV, which is exactly what we’re looking to do here at AFC Fylde.
“He is a strong character with great experience and lives locally, which always helps. He’s a good professional with high standards and I am sure he will rub off on others around him. We are really looking forward to working with him.”
