AFC Fylde Community Foundation continue to offer 16-18-year olds the opportunity of further education with their innovative Futsal Scholarships programme.
The Futsal programme is a two or three-year BTEC course that enables its young participants to work towards academic qualifications whilst taking part in physical activity.
Futsal is a variant of football played on a hard court or a 3G surface, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It can be considered a version of five-a-side football helping players focus on ball skill and control.
During the course, students study and train full time at the new education academy based at Mill Farm Sports Village.
The Foundation have recently set up free taster sessions for anyone interested in the programme to experience the environment and the exciting game of Futsal whilst there are still limited spaces available to sign up!
The free sessions take place every Friday from 6-7pm on the 3G pitches at Mill Farm Sports Village and are open to all boys and girls. The sessions provide the opportunity to meet the Foundation team and take part in a free hour of Futsal training, prior to the course starting in September.
Foundation Director Tom Hutton is a huge fan of Futsal and is delighted at the success of the scholarship programme. He says anybody who is interested should get in touch as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
He said: “The Futsal Scholarship course is a fantastic programme. To offer the opportunity of a unique college course located in a football environment is something that is ideal for boys and girls not interested in the traditional college route.
“Although we still have a small number of remaining slots available, I’d urge anyone who may be interested or would like to receive more information to get in contact as soon as possible.”
