The AFC Fylde Community Foundation has been delivering free health exercises and activities to members of the local community over the age of 50 for the last two years, in partnership with ‘Just Good Friends’.
Just Good Friends is a friendship group who support the elderly community. Working together with the Foundation, their objective is to keep all members of the local community fit and healthy. As well as keeping the community active the classes are a great place for people to meet up for a social gathering.
Health and Wellbeing manager Michael Brown has been delivering the 50+ Keep Fit Classes and believes the sessions have been beneficial: “It’s great to see so many people turn up to these sessions on a consistent basis. It’s a great opportunity for people to keep active but also make friends.”
Bev Sykes, who is Chair of Just Good Friends, has praised Michael and Foundation for the “life changing” work they have done. Bev said: “I really believe having Michael as their trainer has made a massive difference to the Keep Fit Classes and they all have a very special bond with him and are extremely grateful for changing their lives, and for some, giving them a reason to get up in the morning.”
Tom Hutton, Director of the AFC Fylde Community Foundation said, “This is a fantastic programme which has enabled people above the age of 50 to keep healthy as well as the opportunity to make some friends.”
The session is held once a week every Friday – Palace Rooms, Lytham Saint Annes, FY8 2AA – 10am-11pm.
