AFC Fylde striker Danny Rowe became the record goalscorer in National League North history with the winning strike in Friday’s victory over Halifax Town.

Rowe netted his 44^th league goal of an incredible campaign to surpass the previous record set by Altrincham’s Damien Reeves during the 2011-12 season.

Now the frontman has his sights firmly set on securing the league crown ahead of the Coasters penultimate home game against Bradford Park Avenue at Mill Farm tomorrow.

Fylde top the table by six points with just three games to play and victory tomorrow will all but seal the championship thanks to the Coasters’ far superior goal difference over second-placed Kidderminster Harriers.

Rowe said: “When I was out there on the pitch, I wasn’t really thinking about the record. We knew Halifax was going to be a difficult place to come but we’ve managed to get the win.

“Obviously, my goal has ended up being the difference, which is fantastic, but the main thing is that it was a massive result for us. I would say that is was our most difficult game of the season. To go from losing at Stalybridge to winning at Halifax is huge for us.

Speaking on his record breaking strike, Rowe said: “Sam (Finley) has just put the ball across the box and Dan Bradley ran over it and I knew he would take the defender with him. I knew my marker would miss it as he was miles behind the ball and when it came to me, I was in a good area in the box. I knew what I was going to do. I was confident that I would finish it.

“We knew what they were about. They have Tom Denton up top so they are going to play to his strengths and play off him. I’ve got nothing against what they do but we knew that we were going to be penned in for a lot of the game.

“We knew we had to defend together which is a side to our game that we don’t do enough. It’s only the second 1-0 win we’ve had all year.

“I’d say we have to get a victory against Bradford and then we just need a point elsewhere. We won’t be celebrating if we win, even though we’ll be near enough there.

“I’m excited though because I said, coming into this game that, this game was going to be the hardest of our remaining fixtures. I was looking at the other games and saying that we definitely need to pick up points there.”
