AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor admits yesterday’s pivotal National League clash at Wrexham was a rollercoaster of emotions.

The Coasters sealed their place in the Play-Offs with a goalless draw at the Racecourse and now travel to Boreham Wood on Thursday looking to keep their sensational season alive.

Challinor said: “I went through a complete range of emotions throughout the game. We weren’t great and it was frustrating at times.

“As much as we tried to drive home the importance of winning the game, I think there was a human tendency to think a draw was enough for us and that showed in our play.

“We some good chances, particularly a couple in the second half where I couldn’t believe we didn’t score.

“Then, within the blink of an eye, we had a sending off and Dover scored and all of a sudden it’s all hands on deck to keep the ball out of our net for the final moments.

“The final whistle was a huge relief and now we have to prepare for Boreham Wood on Thursday.

“We want to play better but ultimately it’s purely about winning at this stage.

“They were the first team we met this season and I still keep in touch with their manager so it’s funny how it has worked out.

“We both wished each other the best before the game but never really expected to draw each other!

“Thursday night is a one-off game in a unique environment and people will be tested mentally.

“We go there with a game plan and I don’t think there will be many surprises from either side. Hopefully we can come away with the win and extend our season further still.”
