AFC Fylde are pleased to announce the signing of Halifax Town striker Josh Wilson on an initial one month loan deal in time for Saturday’s home game against Stockport County.
Wilson, 26, is a former England C international and has good background history in the Conference North with teams such as Vauxhall Motors, Northwich Victoria and Guiseley. Wilson is also the cousin of QPR footballer Joey Barton.
He was at Vauxhall Motors between 2010 and 2012 where he made 68 appearances, scoring 26 goals. He then moved to Guiseley for the 12/13 season where he made 43 appearances, scoring an impressive 20 goals before moving to Halifax Town in the summer of 2013.
At Halifax, Wilson scored 7 goals in 33 appearances before moving back on loan to Guiseley earlier this season where he scored 1 goal in 5 games. He comes to us with a good pedigree in non league football and we look forward to seeing him become a success at the club.
He will probably go straight into the squad for the Stockport County game on Saturday, in place of Dion Charles who has joined Skelmersdale United on loan earlier this week.
Coasters boss Dave Challinor said: “I’m delighted to finally announce the loan signing of Josh from Halifax in time for this weekends fixture. We had hoped to complete it before last weekend but a last minute issue put the deal on hold.
Josh is a player I’ve liked for a long time, since back when he was at Vauxhall Motors but unfortunately due to levels and being unable to compete with other interested parties, I’ve never managed to be able to do a deal to be able to work with him. What he provides us is goals and a flexibility in terms of how we use him. He can play and score goals as a central striker as he did at Guiseley but can also play as an attacking midfielder and again be a threat as he was at Vauxhall Motors. He will undoubtedly fit into our style of play as he is a good footballer and I have no doubt he’ll do very well. The deal will run originally for a month but I will have dialogue with Neil Aspin at Halifax and Josh himself to see where we go beyond that.
He couldn’t be coming in at a better time in the fact that tomorrow’s game will be a fantastic atmosphere to play in and I’m sure he’ll be welcomed positively by everyone.”
