The AFC Fylde Community Foundation has enjoyed incredible success with their anti-bullying campaign ‘Sticks and Stones’.

The exciting new project, in partnership with Resource Creatives, is funded through the Arts Council and has been delivered to several local primary schools, teaching Year 6 pupils that bullying is not accepted.

Each school will engage in three half-day sessions that will see the youngsters take part in a range of interactive projects, addressing all aspects of bullying, coping strategies, restorative approaches.

Children will also work with poets and artists to produce a united message and commitment to Anti-Bullying across the Fylde and will receive an Accredited Discover Arts Award.

The ‘Sticks and Stones’ team have been working in 16 primary schools on the Fylde Coast, with over 480 children using art and poetry to express themselves and cope with bullying. Over 300 children have completed all three workshops in the programme and all achieved an Arts Award. 

A further 180 are due to complete by the end of the week and we will be working with another seven schools by spring 2016, which will bring the total of children involved to close on 700.

‘Sticks and Stones’ is project managed by Jane Wignall of Resource Creatives and the AFC Fylde Community Foundation.

Jane said: “Feedback has been incredible. The programme has been an amazing success so far and reaction from head-teachers, staff, children and the creative delivery team involved has been extremely positive. 

“The children have become peer mentors, sharing their coping strategies with others and have created some incredible poems, art work and sculpture that address their individual commitment to anti-bullying.”  

A final showcase event will be held in June 2016 to celebrate the programme and share the anti-bullying messages through artwork and poetry.
