AFC Fylde was delighted to welcome Select Group Two referee Leigh Doughty to Mill Farm to present and place a brand new plaque in the Match Officials’ changing room.
Leigh, who used to play for Kirkham & Wesham U18s and reserves, called a day on his football career to focus on refereeing and currently operates in the Sky Bet Championship on a weekly basis.
A talented, up-and-coming referee, Leigh takes on the role of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Referees’ Chairman and Training Officer, and after a revamp this season, the Association is attempting to reach out to as many young referees as possible.
As part of the revamp, Leigh, the brother of former AFC Fylde defender Phil Doughty, decided to design a plaque that would take centre stage in referee changing rooms across the borough to welcome matchday officials. The idea was well received by AFC Fylde, Blackpool, Fleetwood Town, Wren Rovers, Squires Gate and AFC Blackpool.
The Club thanks Leigh, whose local team is the Coasters, for allowing AFC Fylde to be part of his fantastic idea.
Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Referees Association are currently offering brand new members a free membership for this season! For more info check out their social platforms:
