It was a day to remember for youngsters at AFC Fylde Community Foundation’s October half-term soccer school last week when first-team players Alex Whitmore and Luke Conlan surprised them by visiting the camp.

Held at Fylde Sports and Education Centre, children met the two Coasters defenders, who headed down to the penultimate day of the camp.

Alex and Luke had penalties taken against them, before being asked about their football careers in a Q&A session.

Whitmore, who is Club captain and Community Player of the Year, was pleased to attend the camp and see first-hand the work that AFC Fylde Community Foundation does for local children throughout the school holidays across Fylde.

He said: “I’ve seen the half-term soccer camps over the years whilst I’ve been here, and it’s fantastic to see how many kids come down. The numbers have always grown from time to time, which shows it’s successful.

“It’s fantastic to see the kids play as much football as they can at their local football club during the holidays.

“Half-terms can be difficult for parents due to work, so it’s nice for the kids to get the opportunity to go out and exercise and take part in team events.

“This provides the perfect platform to do so, and judging by the number of kids here, it’s going down really well.”

The Foundation deliver holiday clubs throughout the year at three venues across Fylde; Fylde Sports and Education Centre, St Michael’s CofE Primary School and Bactive, Warton.

Alongside this, the Foundation deliver a number of Football Development Centres throughout the week for children aged two to 12 years old at Fylde Sports and Education Centre.

AFC Fylde Community Foundation would like to thank Alex and Luke for visiting our October half-term soccer school camp.
