Building work is full steam ahead at Mill Farm’s £5m* state-of-the-art Education Centre.
Opening this year, the two-storey building will house six changing rooms with shower facilities; four multipurpose classroom spaces for AFC Fylde Community Foundation’s educational and health and wellbeing programmes; a modern IT suite and an 180sq/m function room with canteen and bar.
The centre will also boast six 7-a-side football pitches, an 11-a-side pitch and a full-size hockey pitch. The hockey pitch is already being used by both Fylde and England Hockey clubs as one of five national centres for the international set-up, whilst the football pitches are nearing completion.
The site will be open seven days a week as well becoming the new home to the Community Foundation, the centre will also house the AFC Fylde Academy programme.
Over a hundred 16-17 year olds will received a first-class education with an in-house IT suite and interactive classrooms available, coupled with football training as we mould the football stars of the future!
The process of making the building watertight is well underway with the final windows and door currently being fitted, whilst cabling work for the electrics has started.
Floor and wall insulation work has begun and we are not far off getting internal decoration underway.
Centre Manager Sean White said: “We are very excited about the upcoming Education Centre and its surrounding pitches. It gives the locals, and those from further afield, the chance to come and join competitive leagues, train with their team or even just have a kick-about with their mates.
“I’m particularly impressed with the quality of the 3G pitches, giving us the highest quality facilities in the local area!
“This entire project is purpose built to give the customer the best possible experience and gives the local community a great venue to come and use.’’
AFC Fylde Community Foundation Tom Hutton is also relishing the opening of the centre whilst also adding that financial support from the foundation’s principal education services partner, Cuadrilla Resources, has been vital in helping to bring the plans and vision to fruition.
“The Education Centre is the latest phase in the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to offering an accessible and diverse range of opportunities to those across the Fylde.
“We’ve been working closely with the team at Mill Farm Ventures to ensure that the arrival of the Education Centre is a continuation of this success and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Cuadrilla Resources for their support.”
