In advance of Thursday’s National League Play-Off game away at Boreham Wood, AFC Fylde Chairman David Haythornthwaite gives his thoughts to Head of Media Daniel Agnew on the historic game and the season overall.
Daniel: How do you feel the season went overall?
David: “Really good considering it’s our first season at this level and the money being thrown around by other clubs.
“Until this season we have always had one of the top five budgets and therefore it would be reasonable to expect, if not demand, success.
“However, we are swimming in a different sea now and, therefore, getting to the play-offs on our budget can be considered a tremendous achievement. All credit for this should go to Dave Challinor and his backroom staff.”
Daniel: What are you thoughts on the Boreham Wood game?
David: “I think their Chairman Danny Hunter has done a great job. I met him when we were there earlier in the season and he’s a really nice guy.
“He’s invested heavily and their playing budget is far larger than ours, so if I were him I would expect to be where they are.
“For this reason alone they are massive favourites for this game and I think they will be expecting to win, which the bookies obviously agree with. It’s going to be really difficult for us to progress, even with the great squad we have.
“However money doesn’t always guarantee success and I know that Chally will have the team well prepared. As we all know in football anything can happen on the night.
“The main thing is we are in with a chance and I know everyone involved with the club is loving every minute, as they should.”
