We played well today. We knew it was important to start the game well and to be three up at half time we were delighted with that.
We knew Worcester would come and make it difficult for us and we’ve obviously got a decent record in the fact that we have scored a lot of goals so to start like that was important because it then asked them a question of whether they would come out and play against us or whether they sit in and continue to make it difficult.
The pleasing thing was we came out for the second half and continued where we left off, not conceding which is great. I suppose the difficult thing is to keep doing the right thing when the game is fundamentally won.
People might be disappointed that we didn’t go on and get five or six or whatever but you’ve got to give the opposition credit in that they kept going, they were honest and went for as long as they could before Richie put the icing on the cake for a great day.
We’d spoken before the game about complacency a little bit as we’ve been on a good run, people are now obviously aware of us and, I suppose similar to the first game of the season against Brackley, we knew that if we started well and got that first goal, which is massive, it would affect their thinking and thought process and might change the set up of the game really.
So we were delighted to get that and we kicked on and by half time I suppose, in essence, the game was over.
We spoke at 2-0 that the next goal was important, and even at 3-0 if they got the next goal it would give them a lift and a foothold to get back into the game, but we didn’t do that.
Even though they soaked up the pressure more and had a little bit of joy in the second half we certainly looked a threat all afternoon going the other way.
It’s hard to choose one particular stand out player but their manager said after the game that our front three were threat so if we can keep them right we’ve got a good chance of staying where we are.
But I think it’s also important that defensively we’ve been spot on, the lads always put in a shift and as you can see, our goals against record is fantastic, we’re scoring plenty and if we keep it right we’ll continue to create opportunities.
It’s a bit of a cliché but it’s a massive team effort and there’ll be lads required right throughout the season. Today Casper was out so Hanks started and put a shift in but had to come off injured so Luke’s come on and so did Lloydy and Boothy, so strength in depth is massive for us. We’re not got the biggest of squads but we’ve got Blinks to come back which will add another body to us.
We can look forward now to an FA Cup game next weekend which will take a little bit of focus off the league but it’s an important competition for the club and for our lads as ultimately someone, a non-league club, will get to the First Round and maybe the Third Round and that’s got to be your aim when you come into that competition.
