AFC Fylde take on Stockport County on Bank Holiday Monday at Kellamergh Park. (3pm)
The visitors had started well with three wins and two draws from their opening five games after two underwhelming seasons in National League North. But on Saturday, they suffered their first defeat a 3-0 home loss against Stalybridge Celtic. A league club for over 100 years, the Hatters spent many seasons in the second tier of the Football League and were close to being promoted to the old First Division and the Premier League.
County had a tough start to the season but impressed in their first three games beating much fancied teams like Boston United, AFC Telford United and FC United of Manchester, before drawing their next two with North Ferriby United and Nuneaton Town. Stockport brought in manager Neil Young in the summer and have signed several ex league players including fullback Gareth Roberts and striker Kayode Odejayi, who scored the winner against Chelsea in an FA Cup tie for Barnsley back in 2008.
In last season’s games both ended in 0-0 draws in late November and early December. Several Coasters players have played for Stockport earlier in their careers including Danny Rowe and Richie Baker, who joined Fylde from Stockport in March last season.
