The Club has received confirmation that the 2020/21 FA Youth Cup has been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
AFC Fylde Under-18’s were due to face Cambridge United away on Wednesday evening in the Third Round. The Young Coasters had beaten Stockport Town, Clitheroe, Hebburn Town, Morecambe and Sunderland, to tee up a historic Third Round tie at The Abbey Stadium.
Following the news, Tomorrow night’s fixture will not go ahead, though the FA’s intention is for the competition to resume when the current national lockdown ends.
The FA have released a statement that says: “The health and wellbeing of players and staff are of paramount importance and we intend to resume the national competition once the UK Government’s current national COVID-19 lockdown concludes and it is deemed safer for clubs to travel.
“The FA Youth Participation & Development Committee, which is responsible for the management of the competition, will continue to review the situation and we will provide further updates at the earliest opportunity.”
A rearranged date for our Third-Round tie will be announced as and when the FA deem that the competition is safe to resume.
