There were goals galore as the Fylde Hockey U18 girls qualified for the National Finals!
For the first time, Fylde Girls entered the North U18 Indoor Hockey competition, which was held at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford earlier this month.
The three training sessions prior to the event paid off as the team ran out 5-1 winners over Brooklands in their opening match. The result settled some nerves and gave the squad the confidence ahead of their second game against a well organised York team.
Fylde led by three goals in the early stages of the game but York made a good comeback with two goals, before Fylde added a fourth to secure a 4-2 victory.
The girls eased to an emphatic 11-1 victory in their third group game against a depleted Harrogate side who could not match the quality of the Fylde girls.
A final play-off match against Preston U18 Girls awaited and the despite coming under heavy pressure in the opening minutes, Fylde held firm.
As they had done in the previous three games the team found their goalscoring touch and put four past the Preston keeper and despite conceding a late goal, they booked their place in the National Finals.
Fylde will now face the other victorious teams from around the country over the weekend of the 21st /22nd January 2017.
