We’re delighted to announce the signing of free agent Ashley Hunter on a short-term contract until the end of the season subject to FA approval.
Hunter spent time at the academies of Derby County, Aston Villa, Barnsley and finally Burton Albion, before leaving the Brewers to join Ilkeston in 2014.
Six months later, the midfielder attracted interest from Lancashire rivals Fleetwood Town, whom he joined in January 2015.
It was with the Cod Army where Hunter made a name for himself, making 216 appearances in all competitions, 183 of which came in League One.
He netted 38 times for Town and provided 28 assists before leaving for Salford City in July 2020.
A two-year stint at the Peninsula saw Hunter make 92 appearances, scoring 13 times and providing 17 assists, before he arrived at Morecambe, moving on to MK Dons at the start of the 2023/24 season.
Speaking on his arrival, Ash Hunter said: “I’m really pleased to have joined the club.
“The deal has happened pretty quickly, I first heard the club’s interest on Friday and it’s gone through really quickly.
“I’m hoping to score plenty of goals and further my career, getting back to match fitness after a spell out through injury.
“I have the fans continue to support us and give us the chance to win games of football.”
Chris Beech commented on Ash’s arrival saying, “I’m really pleased to have secured the services to support our attacking intentions and threat while Luke Charman has picked up his injury.
“Ash has spent the majority of his career in League One, scoring many goals and assisting many times to thankful strikers.
“He posseses attacking capabilities and by joining our honest hard-working environment supporting his new teammates.
“I’m sure we will see the best version of Ashley in our forthcoming challenges.”
