Women’s FA Cup Third Round
Fylde Ladies are raring to go ahead of their FA Cup Third Round clash against Plymouth Argyle LFC.
The Ladies progressed to the third round over a month ago, beating Guiseley in early December with goals late in each half from Sophie Charlton and Lauren Davis securing a comfortable 2-0 victory at Kellamergh Park.
Sunday’s opponents Plymouth ply their trade in the FA WPL South West Division One, one division below Premier League Fylde Ladies, however they have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season. With seven wins from seven and games in hand, Plymouth find themselves third in the table.
Despite their enforced Christmas break due to dreadful weather conditions, Fylde Ladies have not lost sight of the tie. Speaking ahead of the game, midfielder Eve Kennerley said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back to it after a few weeks off.
“Getting a win and going through to the next round is all we are thinking about. Continuing this run with the opportunity to face teams in the Women’s Super League would be a very exciting challenge for us all.”
Manager Conrad Prendergast said: “I’m really looking forward to the third round of the FA Cup. It’s something I have not experienced before and the prospect of facing a WSL club in the next round excites me a lot.
“The players have been in training and preparing this week and we have one final session to put our final preparations together to give ourselves the best possible chance.
“It has been great to have returned this week. The players have looked sharp, re-focused and energetic which I’m really pleased with.
“We won’t take Plymouth for granted. We know they are a good side in great form, but we are also a very good side and I am confident that we can deliver a good performance and progress.”
Please note that Sunday’s game will take place at UCLAN Sports Arena in Preston.
