Local youngsters are experiencing first-hand what life is like as a professional sports person, thanks to AFC Fylde Community Foundation.
Working in partnership with Cuadrilla and Centrica, the Foundation is currently delivering its innovative ‘Train Like a Pro’ programme for the second year.
The bespoke football development programme offers local children and grassroots teams the opportunity to take part in sport in a professional football environment.
Youngsters from Layton Juniors Football Club are the latest recruits to join the Foundation for the popular programme. They have enjoyed being given an insight in to how professional footballers train and the incredible amount of hard work and commitment required to achieve success in the game.
As well as learning valuable new football skills, enabling them to improve their game, the children have also been educated on the importance of health, nutrition and even physiotherapy to help them understand how these can affect and improve performance.
‘Train Like A Pro’ lead Liam Robinson is understandably proud of the programme and the overwhelmingly positive feedback it receives from participants.
He said: “The Train Like A Pro is a programme which I look forward to delivering every half-term. After the success of the first year, I’m not surprised that it’s continuing to go from strength to strength and get even bigger and better. The team from Layton are making great progress and I’m excited to see what they’ll go on to achieve.
“The programme however would not be possible without the ongoing support of Cuadrilla and Centrica, which we all really value and appreciate.”
