The Good, the Bad and the Ugly… September

August left a bitter taste for the Coasters after a bright start. But things would be turned on their head in September.

After a sour start with defeats against Stockport County and Yeovil, Dave Challinor’s men took home advantage to see off Eastleigh and Wrexham.

What about the others in September?

It’s getting tight at the top with the form sides in a league of their own. Yeovil continued their hot streak with six wins in six, breaking Bromley’s unbeaten start to the season in the process.

Barrow are also on the march – five straight wins their best run for over half a century. Kabongo Tshimanga is showing the kind of form that had EFL clubs on red alert in the summer, he fired six to take his tally to eight overall.

The high point?

After waiting eight games for a third win of the season, relief came in the form of two home games in three days. First, Eastleigh in front of the BT Sport cameras and then a quick turnaround to down Wrexham midweek.

Star performer…

Versatile Jordan Williams has been quietly going about his work for the Coasters. He played every minute of every game in the month, adding two goals along the way.

From the dug-out….

Dave Challinor wasn’t getting too giddy about their first win for a while but said he hoped a win against Eastleigh “could be the start of something” as they looked to get going again.

Dan Bradley felt a winning run could give them the boost they need. “Confidence is such a big thing,” he said when discussing how they can turn things around.

How do things compare to last September?

The Coasters were loving life on the road. Four away games yielded a win and three draws while closer to home, a defeat to Salford was avenged with a comfortable thumping of Aldershot Town.

What does October look like?

Away days at Torquay, Boreham Wood and Maidenhead could be the making of the Coasters if they can bring the points home. They will fancy themselves against Chesterfield and Sutton United on home soil.
