AFC Fylde are back in pre-season action on Tuesday night when they make the journey to Curzon Ashton, kick-off 7:30pm.

Chris Beech’s men head to the Tameside Stadium for a fixture against National League North opposition.

Curzon, who finished seventh in the sixth-tier last term, losing the play-off quarter-final on penalties to Chorley, are managed by former Fylde loanee, Craig Mahon.

Fylde’s last visit to Curzon ended in an important 2-0 victory in April 2023, with Nick Haughton and Luke Conlan scoring vital goals in a National League North contest in the Coasters’ title-winning season.

The Manager: Craig Mahon

Dubliner Mahon has held the position of player/manager at Curzon Ashton since February following an interim spell in charge.

Winger Mahon started his career with Wigan Athletic, turning professional at the Latics, where he spent time on loan at Accrington Stanley before permanent moves to Salford City and Burscough.

In 2010, Mahon would move onto Vauxhall Motors, remaining at the club for three-years, making 131 appearances in all competitions.

Mahon signed for Chester in May 2013. His first year with the Seals included a loan spell at the Coasters, playing six times, prior to becoming a key player upon returning to Cheshire.

In total, Mahon represented Chester on 239 occasions as the club competed in the Vanarama National League and National League North, breaking their all-time appearance record.

Mahon departed the Deva Stadium in January 2020, signing for Altrincham, who he helped win promotion to non-league’s top-flight through the play-offs in August of the same year.

Since penning a contract with Curzon Ashton in September 2020, Mahon, 35, featured in 143 league games – including his ever-present 2022/23 campaign.

After serving as interim manager twice, Mahon was appointed as player/manager permanently in February and guided the Nash to a play-off finish.
