It’s another long trip for AFC Fylde this weekend as we travel down to East London to face Dagenham and Redbridge at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.
The fixture is the first of two back-to-back away games for the Coasters who follow this weekend up with a midweek trip to Boston United.
The weekend sees Kevin Phillips’ first away game since taking permanent charge at Mil Farm, and his first league fixture after making his Mill Farm debut last weekend in the FA Cup.
It’s set to be a tight contest in the capital with Dagenham having won four of their opening 13 games, but will be full of confidence following their 5-1 win over Leiston in the FA Cup last time out.
Opposition dugout: Ben Strevens
A name very familiar with the Dagenham and Redbridge fans, Strevens took over in the dugout in March 2023 after spending time there as a player.
The 44-year-old made over 100 appearances between 2006 and 2009 before returning back to the Daggers in 2013.
The former forward and attacking midfielder also spent time with Barnet, Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers and Gillingham, as well as long spells at Eastleigh where he later became manager.
Strevens started his managerial career in 2016, taking caretaker charge of semi-professional side Whitehawk in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
He then took permanent charge of Eastleigh in November 2018 after a spell as Caretaker manager. That was a spell which lasted four years before leaving the club through mutual consent in January 2022.
That was before his current appointment when he joined the Daggers in March 2023, before helping them steer clear of the relegation zone in 23/24 including a run which saw Strevens win the Manager of the month award for March.
One to Watch: Dion Pereira
With ten goal contributions in 13 National League games, Dion Pereira is Dagenham’s top scorer this season.
On loan from Championship side Luton Town, Pereira has spent time for some very reputable clubs over his short career so far after coming through the ranks at Watford.
He then made the move over to Atlanta in America in 2019, spending a short spell with their second team before moving back into the first team picture.
After being released in 2020, the Winger returned to the South of England with Luton Town where he has seen a number of different loan spells.
The 25-year-old has been out on loan to the likes of Yeovil Town, Bradford City, Sutton United and now Dagenham & Redbridge, picking up valuable EFL experience along the way.
