AFC Fylde picked up a point at home to Gainsborough Trinity after a second half comeback from the away side thwarted The Coasters from taking three points.

A second half brace from Jonathan D’Laryea saw Trinity snatch a point from under the noses of The Coasters after a first half brace from Dion Charles saw Fylde go into half-time 2-0 up.

The Coasters took the lead on thirteen minutes with a fantastic individual goal from Dion Charles. He picked the ball up on the edge of the box, twisted and turned past an onrushing defender and fired the ball past Budtz who barely even saw it. An unbelievable striker from Charles, an early goal of the season contender no doubt.

A couple of minutes later, Josh Wilson forced a save out of Budtz as a cross came in from the right and Wilson headed towards goal but Budtz tipped it over the bar and out for a corner. It was a good chance to double the Coasters lead early on and Fylde were in command in the opening stages.

Sam Finley was next to try from twenty-five yards out, as he stung the palms of Budtz in the Trinity goal. It was a good save from the keeper, but the Trinity man couldn’t deny The Coasters from scoring a second a minute later.

It was that man Dion Charles who scored Fylde’s second of the game, although The Coasters got that bit of luck that had eluded them at the start of the season. Charles’ connected with a bouncing ball in the box and it fell kindly for him to just stick a foot out and put it past Budtz to give Fylde a 2-0 lead on twenty-seven minutes.

Charles nearly got a hat-trick towards the end of the half but his curling shot went just wide of the post. The Coasters never looked out of control of the game at all in the first half and looked comfortable throughout.

The away side had to wait until the thirty-ninth minute to have their first attempt at goal as Matt Wilson fired over from just outside the box, although it wasn’t troubling Hinchliffe. Josh Wilson went about trying to add a third goal for for Fylde in added on time at the end of the first half as his left footed shot from just outside the box just missed the far post.

The Gainsborough manager must have said something to his players at half-time, as the away side came out for the second half much the better side and deserved to grab a point. Nathan Jarman signalled their intent as he tried an effort from 30 yards immediately from kick off but it went harmlessly wide of Hinchliffe’s left hand post.

Charles was The Coasters man of the match and he went about seeing the game off by adding a third goal but his twenty-five yard shot couldn’t find the back of the net after good build up play from Sumner and Wilson.

Trinity got a goal back on fifty-one minutes through Jonanthan D’Laryea as he connected well with veteran striker Darryn Stamp’s header to fire past Hinchliffe and make it 2-1. It was D’Laryea’s first goal for Trinity since moving back from North Ferriby and he got his second soon after.

Before that however, Matt Wilson’s shot forced a save from Hinchliffe before Quinn headed just wide from a corner. Gainsborough were starting to come back into the game. Stamp then went even closer to scoring as he hit the side netting for Gainsborough with a volley from the edge of the box.

Josh Wilson set about adding a third for Fylde as his thirty yards free-kick piledriver nearly caught out Jan Budtz but he got a hand to the shot and put it out for a corner. Moments later, new signing Jason St. Juste won a corner and Wilson blasted the ball across the face of goal, but nobody could connect with the cross.

Then came the equalizer for the away side as a terrific volley from D’layrea brought the away side level. The volley was from an acute angle at the edge of the box and it flew past Hinchliffe in the Coasters goal. 2-2.

Charles, who got man of the match, went close to giving The Coasters the lead for second time in the game as he fired just wide of Budtz’ left post, before Josh Wilson found space in the box but he fired straight at Budtz who saved well with his legs.

The final ten minutes petered out and The Coasters will feel they could have won this game due to their first half dominance, but it was a deserved point for Gainsborough who were excellent in the second half.
