With pitch renovations at Mill Farm well underway, Head Groundsman Dan Bunce talks us through recent progress…

“We are now two weeks since the pitch was seeded,” said Dan.

“I gave it a first roll in the middle of the week to help split the plant, allowing it to thicken, which should start to happen over the weekend.

“The first dose of fertiliser went on yesterday which will encourage further growth of the grass.

“We are dropping down the watering programme, which means instead of having water readily available, the roots will have to reach further down to search for the water. This strengthens the roots and makes the much thicker.

“The plan is, weather pending, to give the pitch it’s first cut on Monday and we will see how it goes from there.

“Progress has been very good so far and we are well on track.”
