AFC Fylde can today announce the loan signing of Ethan Mitchell from Wigan Athletic.
The twenty-one-year-old centre-back has today joined the Coasters on a short-term loan from Sky Bet League One outfit, Wigan Athletic.
After returning to the Latics in the summer of 2022 following a successful trial period, the right-footed Englishman comes to Mill Farm with stacks of ability and looking to gain first-team experiences.
Ethan previously spent his formative years at Latics’ Academy, before joining Tranmere Rovers Centre of Development at the age of 15. He later made the move to Devon to join Plymouth Argyle in 2020, captaining the U18s during his three years as a scholar.
He made his professional debut for Argyle against Newport County in the Papa John’s Trophy, before heading out on loan to gain experience with Nantwich Town and Plymouth Parkway.
Ethan signed for Latics in the summer, after impressing during a number of games at the back end of last season.
The imposing defender made his debut for the U21s on the opening day of the 2022/23 Professional Development League campaign, keeping a clean sheet in the 5-0 victory over Watford, alongside captaining the side regularly.
Speaking on his arrival, Ethan said “I’m delighted to join the club, I heard about the deal last week following playing a game for Wigan.
“I like what Chris is trying to do. My time at Wigan has shaped me well, it’s really developed me well.”
“I’d describe myself as aggressive, on the front foot, loud and passionate.”
Head Coach, Chris Beech exclaimed his delight in securing the centre-backs services also, “We’re delighted to welcome Ethan to the club.
“I’d personally like to thank Gregor Rioch for his support in helping us to complete the deal.
“He adds defensive capabilities and a winning mentality which is why he has represented Wigan’s U21s as skipper.”
Welcome to AFC Fylde, Ethan!
