AFC Fylde is thrilled to announce that midfielder and current National League North Player of the Year Nick Haughton has committed his immediate future to the Club.
Fresh off the back of helping Adam Murray’s side to the National League North title, Haughton has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, with the option of a further year being held in the Club’s favour.
Since becoming a Coaster in 2018 after signing from Salford City for an undisclosed fee, it’s fair to say Haughton has become a real fan-favourite. He even picked up the Man of the Match award in the FA Trophy Final against Leyton Orient.
Growing significantly as a player year after year, Nick leads the way as Fylde’s current top goalscorer with 80 goals in over just 150 appearances to his name.
The creative midfielder signs on the dotted line after his best season to date, where he finished as the National League North’s Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer, alongside the Club’s Supporter’s Player of the Year, Player’s Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer.
Following the news of Nick extending his time at Mill Farm, Chairman David Haythornthwaite said: “When we signed Nick from Salford in 2018, I was over the moon as I knew what a talent he was, and I feel just as happy if not more so today.
“I think by Nick’s own admission, his first two years at the Club weren’t particularly great as he was in and out of the team, and it’s only in the last two years, Nick’s talents have really come to the fore.
“For that reason, I know everyone associated with the Club, especially the fans, will be delighted with Nick’s commitment today.
“It’s a subject that I have spoken daily about with Chris Beech since the last game of the season, and I don’t think I’d be speaking out of turn by saying it’s the biggest contract we’ve ever offered anyone at the Club, but it’s also a huge investment for the next part of our journey.
“That said, apart from being a brilliant footballer, Nick’s also a great human being, and he sets a great example to anyone who wants to be a professional in any walk of life.”
Director of Football Chris Beech added: “Echoing the comments both from Nick and the Chairman, it’s vital we recruit to attack the National League and the challenges ahead.
“Recruitment comes in many different forms and from all different areas, and retaining key players is part of that process. Retaining the National League North’s top goalscorer and National League North Player of the Year was always a priority.
“I’m really pleased Nick has committed his future to the club, joining our current core group, with my thanks to the Chairman for supporting the process.
“Nick and the club’s ambitions align, and it was evident in negotiations that both parties want to represent the AFC Fylde identity in striving to achieve future success. I’m sure our fan base will enjoy the positive news as we move forwards together in our new challenges – all the best, Nick.”
