AFC Fylde Chairman, David Haythornthwaite has issued the following operational update, in an open letter to our supporters:

I would like to provide you with information regarding the current business and operational side of the club. As I am sure you will understand, we are facing financial uncertainties due to the total loss of all the income that would normally be generated by playing matches compounded by the closure of all the other income generating facilities at Mill Farm.

Unfortunately, we can’t wait any longer for the League, FA or indeed Government support and therefore we must take drastic action to ensure the survival of the Club. Until today everybody has been paid in full, but this can no longer continue. This afternoon, we have asked all our players along with the football and operational staff at the club to take a 50% decrease in their wages for April and May with immediate effect. This was an immensely difficult decision, but we have been left with no other option. This situation will be constantly monitored and the recently announced Government job retention scheme will be fully explored once the details are known.

We are aware of the ongoing media speculation regarding the suspension of National League matches. It is not currently clear what direction will be taken, but please be aware that supporters will be updated as soon as it is clear, and we have answers. We all need them, and we are hopeful of receiving this information sooner rather than later.

Regarding the club’s Academy and Community Foundation, I can confirm that neither of these valuable entities are currently affected as their external funding is still in place. The staff are remaining in regular contact and are planning in the best way they can for the future.

The Fylde Women’s team are being placed under a temporary suspension. Please be in no doubt that AFC Fylde is wholeheartedly committed to its women’s team and will ensure it remains a part of the club.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to everyone connected to AFC Fylde. As many have seen, this is an exceptionally difficult time around the world and the main thing we hope for is everyone to remain healthy. However, we must keep our eyes on the economic implications as well and that is why we have had to put these measures in place.

Thank you, keep healthy, follow the NHS and Government advice and we hope to see everyone at Mill Farm as soon as is possible.

David Haythornthwaite,

Chairman
