AFC Fylde Community Foundation have been working hard during the past year in preparation for the launch of their impressive Futsal scholarship programme in September.
The Futsal programme is a two or three year BTEC course that enables its young participants to work towards academic qualifications whilst taking part in physical activity.
During the course, students will study and train full time at the new education academy based at Mill Farm Sports Village.
With the squad selected and ready to start full time in September, the scholars have been enjoying a roster of pre-season training sessions throughout summer months to get familiar with their new classmates.
However, they recently got an unexpected surprise when they travelled to Everton for a national kicks competition where they competed against the might of Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton to name a few of the impressive heavyweight challengers.
The young players did themselves enormous credit in their first tournament. They managed to secure a place in the final in which, after a putting up a brave fight, they unfortunately lost to the hosts Everton.
Foundation Futsal lead Ryan Vaughan is delighted with his Futsal scholars. He said: “ They have made excellent progress throughout summer. With preparations underway to start full time in September it was great to get everybody together for a tournament and I’m incredibly proud of the success they achieved on the day.
“I’m excited to get started in September and confident the Futsal programme will be a fantastic success for everyone involved.”
