The AFC Fylde Community Foundation will soon be starting up its very own walking football team. The team, which will be based in both Lytham St Annes and Kirkham, will represent AFC Fylde Football Club in a number of local and national walking football tournaments, alongside having a great deal of fun and making new friends along the way!
Working in partnership with a North West Charity called N-Compass North West, The AFC Fylde Community Foundation’s Health and Wellbeing team have successfully acquired funding from The Big Lottery Fund to set up, purchase kits and employ specialist coaches for the next two years, ensuring that the sessions are totally accessible to all residents throughout the Fylde Coast.
For those that are unfamiliar with the concept of walking football, the game which is extremely similar to football has a key adaption to allow maximum participation opportunities for all. This key adaption which is present in all games, prohibits any running taking place. The absence of running ensures that the sport is suitable for all, no matter what age or ability they may bring to the team. The emphasis on the programme is fun throughout, with all participants provided with the opportunity to meet new friends, and take part in a range of additional social events.
The programme, which will commence in August 2015 is totally free of charge for all participants who wish to take part. Although pre booking is not essential, it is advisable if you would like to attend sessions, to make AFC Fylde aware, by calling 01772 682593 and leaving an expression of interest. Once full session details have been confirmed The Foundation will be sent full details out to each personal who has expressed an interest in the programme. We all look forward to hearing from you!
